In contrast to composite productions utilizing Chroma-keying to place an anchor inside a 3D environment, broadcast productions may be set up to make use of physical spaces augmented with 3D virtual graphics. Augmented reality acts as a substitute to creating hard sets similar to Virtual sets. The technology gives freedom to transform the complete studio environment to match the content without the usage of a blue or green screen.
A camera on a crane along with the MO-SYS star tracker and a simple table with a glass top within a studio space can be converted into a full-scale studio setup. The technology gives freedom to transform the complete studio environment to match the content. The quality of graphics is visually stunning where graphics and data interact with real characters displaying data and information in a very attractive manner thereby giving the viewers a realistic feel of all visual elements.
The system is best suited for channels with any size studio space, who want to save costs on building expensive sets and at the same time transforming their presentations into one that is visually more interesting and engaging.
In case of augmented reality presentations, the studio consists of a camera topped on a pedestal or crane fitted with a camera sensing device from MO-SYS. The WASP3D tracked Virtual Set system can ingest tracking data from various camera sensing devices into 3D virtual set scenes. The WASP3D Drone designer has an inbuilt virtual camera which accepts Pan, Tilt, Zoom and Focus data coming from the physical camera and the perspective to match the 3D virtual environments as the physical camera moves in real-time. The WASP3D Virtual Set system can be configured to use tracking data from a camera to map the physical studio with the computer-generated 3D content. (Augmented Graphics).
In case of a pedestal or crane-based camera implementation, the X, Y, Z position data and other details can be ingested by the system for even more elaborate camera angles like Standard Views – Top, Bottom, left, Right and Full Circle/360 degree), Bird Eye view and others for richer graphical representations.
WASP3D on-air graphics can be integrated data from cloud data sources to enrich production value and make for lively augmented reality presentations. For example: In case of Sports Presentation, Augmented Graphics can be integrated with Opta Sports to enrich production value.
